Klaus Kilian at HMW 2014

Inspired by the records of Muddy Waters and Sonny Boy Williamson Mojo Kilian started to play the harmonica 30 years ago. Over the years his collection of records as well as his skills to play the bluesharp have grown in the same way. Today he’s one of the experts for blues and one of the best players on the harmonica.

For the first time he'll give a course at the HMW 2014.

Masterworkshop 9
History of the Blues Harmonica

Today, the diatonic harmonica is used in a wide variety of musical genres, but nowhere is it of such great importance as in the Blues. From its origins around the dawn of the 20th century to its most recent developments, the “blues harp” has always been one of the main ingredients of blues music.

But how have playing styles developed across more than a century? Who were the pioneers, the innovators and the main stylistic representatives? This multimedia presentation with practical examples will be held by Klaus “Mojo” Kilian together with the other Harmonica Masters Workshops tutors in English.

The Harmonica Masters Workshops are taking place in Trossingen since 2003, initiated by musical director Steve Baker and organized by the Hohner Conservatory. World-class instructors like David Barrett, Joe Filisko, Eric Noden or Riedel Diegel and a full supporting program of sessions and concerts make the HMW a leading educational event for blues harmonica in Europe.
