50 Years Space Anniversary

50 years ago, on 16th December 1965 astronaut Walter “Wally” Schirra jr., commander onboard of the Gemini 6, surprised Mission Control by playing “Jingle Bells” on an 4-hole HOHNER Little Lady harmonica. By doing so he became the first human to perform on a musical instrument in space. In 1967, the harmonica was donated by Walter Schirra to The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC and has resided there ever since.

This special event in history marks the success of the harmonica being the easiest musical instrument to take with you literally everywhere.

In the year of this 50th anniversary HOHNER would like to honor and give thanks to everybody who has taken the harmonica a few steps further out into the world and spread the joy of music.

Under the motto “enjoy music. everywhere.” we are introducing a small range of Collector’s Edition and limited harmonicas, giving away 2 x 1.000 € for the best photo and video in an Instagram competition and hosting many more worldwide activities to come!

Make sure you always have a harmonica in your pocket and stay tuned for more information!
