VELOZ is a harmonica quartet formed in 2010, with four young talents nurtured in King’s College. Leo Ho, who swept the boards of a number of international harmonica festivals, has been crowned the Champion in Chromatic Harmonica Solo (with Test Piece) at the World Harmonica Festival (WHF), which is regarded as the highest honor. He is partnered with Ivan Chong, who is a WHF Champion in Harmonica Duet, and an enthusiastic educator teaching in various institutions.
Wesley Wong adds rhythmic colors to the ensemble with his chord harmonica. The first-ever music undergraduate majoring in harmonica performance in a local university, he is an Asia-Pacific Harmonica Festival (APHF) Champion in Solo and WHF Champion in Trio. Supported on the bass harmonica by Jerry Wong, who is a well-acclaimed bass player in a number of ensembles, Veloz explores a repertoire that ranges a number of different styles, and they are enthusiastic in encouraging audience participation.
The celebrated group has performed actively on local and international stages. The list includes the world-renowned Hong Kong Arts Festival as the invited guests of King’s Harmonica Quintet (KHQ). In the international scene, they were invited to perform at the Gala Concerts of the biennial APHF consecutively for a number of times. In 2011, recommended by and collaborating with KHQ, the group embarked on a performance tour in Eastern and Central Europe with four performances staged. In February 2014, they appeared on the TV program “Amazing Chinese” broadcast on CCTV 1, which attracted up to 100 million audiences and received critical acclaim.
VELOZ will present its first full-scale concert “VELOZ | EXPERIMENTAL” in August 2015. Transforming the concert hall into a laboratory, they will explore everything innovative with the instrument.
