Tad Robinson

Singer, songwriter and harmonica player Tad Robinson has created a niche for his sweet soulful music in today's blues scene which has resulted in regular festival and club performances in more than twenty countries worldwide over the last decade. In addition, Robinson has been nominated seven times for Blues Music Award since 2005 and his songs have appeared in three major motion pictures. His singing and harmonica playing have been heard in countless TV and radio commercials.
Tad was born and raised in New York City.  His love of music came easy and early. "There was always music in my house", he recalls.  "My mom had an upright piano; my dad crooned like Bing Crosby; and my brother had a treasure chest of rock and soul 45s".    He picked up his first Hohner Marine Band at the age of 10 at a music store a few blocks from their apartment in  the Yorkville section of Manhattan. He  carried it around Central Park, jamming on it when it wasn't in the leather pouch that attached to his belt.  He began singing and blowing harmonica in his first rock band in 5th grade, mostly the songs of the British Invasion acts like the Animals and the Rolling Stones. He developed an appreciation for and intimacy with the music that those musicians so obviously loved: Amercian blues and soul. He never turned back.
Robinson moved to Chicago in the mid 1980s to get an education in the blues that was happening there. The characteristic Chicago sound that was being played then by  bluesmen like Otis Rush, Lonnie Brooks, Syl Johnson,  Carey Bell, Sunnyland Slim, Lefty Dizz and Junior Wells has never left his own blend of harmonica-accented soul music.
Within a decade of moving to Chicago, Robinson was signed to a two record deal with Delmark Records, the legendary  label of artists such as Magic Sam,  Junior Wells and Buddy Guy.
His recorded work at Delmark brought him to the attention of the great record man, David Earl at Severn Records in Marlyand. Robinson is now on the fourth of a four record deal with Severn. Severn Records is home to  such roots music stalwarts as The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Sugar Ray & The Bluetones, Lou Pride, Bryan Lee and Darrell Nulisch.
Robinson plays the Marine Band, The Marine Band Crossover and The Thunderbird diatonic models. And the Chromonica 40 chromatic harmonica.
